iDirect Wins US$2 Million Contract From NewWave Broadband Ltd. To Expand Global Maritime Network
Investment spurred by rising demand for flat-fee VSAT service
Herndon, Va., April 6, 2009 — Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited’s (ST Electronics) related US satellite communication company, VT iDirect, Inc. (iDirect), today announced that NewWave Broadband Ltd. has ordered US$2 million in satellite communications products to expand its popular maritime VSAT service and grow its land-based market. The contract includes the acquisition of multiple iDirect 15000 Series Universal Satellite Hubs, line cards and remote routers. iDirect is a world leader in satellite-based IP communications technology.
NewWave plans to install iDirect hubs in the United States and northern Europe, expanding its network reach and capacity in an effort to meet rising demand as maritime companies turn from pay-per-use narrowband to flat-fee VSAT broadband. The network will utilize Ku-band satellite capacity from three transponders on Telesat’s T11N. The investment follows NewWave’s rapid rise to success providing maritime services as an iDirect Virtual Network Operator. The company has recorded triple-digit growth each year since its inception in May 2005, offering VSAT services to the maritime industry, and today serves more than 700 vessels through its worldwide distribution network.
The investment will also help NewWave expand its land-based services that provide enterprise voice and data connectivity across Southern Africa. NewWave will leverage iDirect’s iVantage Network Management System to control the entire worldwide network, including its existing VNO infrastructure, from its corporate headquarters in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Our maritime business is growing fast, and this investment provides a strong foundation for long term success in the market. The iDirect platform provides the most cost-effective means to manage satellite bandwidth and has enabled us to provide high-speed connectivity at an attractive rate.
