State-Of-The-Art Radar Extractor
Traditional approaches to detecting and tracking maritime targets are only able to register a potential threat by using a self-adapting threshold Constant False Alarm Rate (CFAR) which is only effective for big targets moving at a constant velocity. For highly maneuverable targets, the size of a small boat, the traditional approach provides poor performance. The Sentinel Track-Before-Detection (TBD) solution uses signal processing techniques to identify small targets in heavy noise and cluttered environments.
There is no threshold applied for the TBD and this allows all signals to be captured at a particular instance. A series of snapshots are taken over time and the readings compared to study the movements of the target. This unique processing algorithm will pick up target signals based on cell intensity and movements of the target.
With an extremely low false alarm rate, the unique capability of TBD, allows tracking of targets in auto-initiation mode in a 360° sector. Conventional systems have difficulty operating in this mode due to high false alarms rate. TBD can detect targets up to twice the radial distance achieved by conventional methods and is particularly suited for handling any element of surprise encountered in a threat situation.
